This patient portal is designed to work as a stand alone website, or as an adjunct to the Vermont Health Information Exchange (HIE). It is compatible to the HIE Continuity of Care processing and the permissions are designed to match the current sections of that record format. For more details on the permission settings, please refer to that menu selection. In terms of the HIE, there can be an interface that sends and receives data from HIE locations such as hospitals, labs, and other clinical providers and all based upon the permissions established by each patient. In fact, the HIE could use these permission settings throughout their processing even though it does not directly influence the patient portal. The portal could act as the repository of the patient’s overall permission schema for their medical record sharing and access. Currently, this portal contains a provider login that then allows that provider to view patient data that has been stored for each of their patients, providing each patient has given permission for that viewing. Patients can determine what portions of their data can be viewed or printed by what providers. Similarly, the patient can allow for lab and comment updating from the provider side of the portal. Future Plans It is envisioned that
there will be a reporting back end to be added to this portal that
allows for aggregate reporting over time, summarizing data by region,
disease, provider, or statewide allowing for easy integration into
more complex reporting systems for the State.
